When I started
I started in fifth or sixth grade, but did not start taking it seriously and competing until college.
How I started
I was always playing sports growing up, so I had little time to dedicate to boxing. Nonetheless, I would accompany my dad to the gym every once in a while for his boxing workout. He picked up boxing as an adult to get in better shape. I stopped going for a while, but I picked it back up as a student at Santa Clara University. I've boxed competitively for the last four years, and I love it.
Why I love it
I love to compete, and boxing pushes you to your limits.
How I stay motivated
Boxing is a sport that requires difficult physical work, but people often underestimate the mental side of the sport. It takes a mentally tough individual to enter the ring to compete. It also takes a smart individual to land precise punches and avoid an opponent's punches. There is always something to improve upon, whether physical or mental.
