When I started
Freshmen year in High School
How I started
Started playing water polo when I was a freshmen in high school (after I had been swimming for about 10 years). I immediately fell in love with the sport. It became my primary sport all throughout high school and I stayed active on water polo leagues year-round. It was much more exciting than swimming and a lot more interesting. I enjoyed the physical aspects of the game such as 'wrestling' your opponent. I also became very interested in the strategy in play tactics.
I was recruited to UCSB's Division 1 team when I entered college and played on that team for two years, until I stopped to pursue triathlons full-time (due to the efforts I was investing into raising money for a non-profit organization that aided cancer research for lymphoma, an illness my mom was suffering from).
Fortunately, she's better now and I still continue to pursue triathlons full-time. However, part of my swimming practice occurs in the water polo pool, when I play water polo with a club team
Why I love it
More 'interesting' than swimming laps...
