What is the ruling on a shot attempt being recovered by the shooter without the ball touching any part of the rim or backboard?

After ALL of the basketball leaves the area of the rim, if you touch it right above it is offensive goal tending, you can recover it on the backboard beside the rim.

Shooters cannot catch their own air balls. If a player shoots the ball without a defender touching or deflecting it, and the shot doesn't touch the rim or backboard, the shooter cannot be the first player to touch the ball.

Also, to clarify, this is called a traveling violation.
