A screen (or pick) is when a player stands in the way of a defender so that his/her teammate can get clear of the defender.

It's illegal to move while setting a screen, so make sure you have your feet planted.

Point guards normally call for a screen, which can lead to one of the most effective plays in the game: The pick and roll. After setting a screen, the player who set the pick then rolls to the basket. The point guard can move around the screen for a shot, or pass the ball to the rolling player to the basket. It's a simple play, but it can create a lot of confusion when used effectively.
