I need to learn front one and a half tucks soon. I'm very close to getting them but keep landing on my face. I don't mean to and I am not scared. Any suggestions?

Hi Kate, When you say you are landing on your face, is it because you are coming out of the tuck too early? Or is it that you don't have enough rotation and height to complete the dive? If you are coming out too early, have your coach give you a call. Hold onto your tuck until you hear the call. Once you do, look for the water and dive in. You can also practice your spotting. Do a front tuck and as you enter the water, take a good look at the water as you enter feet first. Practice several times until you are easily washing over on your front tuck. For a front one and a half, once you see your spot, hold on a bit longer and kick your feet into the air and dive into the water. If you don't have enough rotation, try working on front flips from the side of the pool. Work on getting your hips into the air and chasing your legs with the top half of your body. Often what makes you stuck in a dive is pulling your knees up too quickly. This usually happens because you are eager to get into a tuck position. Focus on getting your hips into the air and chasing your legs into the tuck position. Once you can successfully do a flip from the side of the pool (even if you land on your bottom) you will easily have enough rotation to complete a one and a half on 1-meter. Hope that answered your question. Good luck!
